Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is a lung disease caused by inhaling ultra-fine silica particles ejected by volcanic eruptions. These near-invisible grains — too small to feel, too sharp to ignore — penetrate deep into pulmonary tissue and never leave.

A form of pneumoconiosis, it shares DNA with silicosis — the industrial lung disease that has killed miners and glassworkers for centuries. But its cause is raw, elemental, geological: the earth itself exhaling poison.
